The old photographic techniques, or for others the alternative photographic techniques, are experiencing a revival movement that sees them as the protagonists of a new season of analogue photography; in an attempt to regain an artisanal taste in the production of photographic images or to expand the communicative potential with a palette of possibilities that is more extensive and different from silver gelatine printing. Some techniques aim to make negatives or positives in the room, others to print these same negatives, but also traditional and digital negatives. The path to the production of a technically impeccable photograph is long and laborious, challenging knowledge, skills and abilities at the same time, but often yielding exciting results. The volumes of the series “Ancient photographic techniques” offer the possibility of gathering advanced cognitive elements to deal with the processes treated, starting from fundamentals documented in a solid bibliography, but always verified in the author’s concrete practice.
